Review of Satyricon (1969) by M D — 02 Sep 2009
Based on the writing of Petronius, Felliniâ??s interpretation was labeled as such because of another version directed released the year before. While perhaps a visual feast, it is certainly one left on the stove too long resulting darkly garish and lavishly gaudy decadence of cement walled ancient Rome.
Despite Oscar nominated direction, the film seems little more than production extravagance, homosexual recess, and orgies of food and nudity. And at more than two hours it becomes a too big of a helping.
