Fellini may be film royalty but this film is a royal mess - but, so was pre-Christian Rome and I'm down with that. Original author, Petronius, (circa 37BC) captured the utter decadent insanity of Roman life under Emperor Nero and so does this film.
Petronius would of loved it.
