Review of Sarah's Key (2010) by Anthony H — 04 Aug 2012
Kristin Scott Thomas, one of the smartest actresses on the planet, continues a storied career here. This moving intergenerational story loaded is loaded with moral and ethical questions. Historically, it was fascinating / disturbing to learn about the degree to which the French government and its people kowtowed to the Nazis.
Many horrific scenes, carefully actualized in ordinary urban settings, makes one consider the inhuman part of the human condition. Because of the non-linear elements of the story this was probably a hard novel to adapt.
As always, I'm guessing the book captured some nuance missing on the screen - so read before you watch if possible. A solid addition to the Holocaust film/literature genre.
