Review of Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto (1954) by Robert W — 31 Mar 2016
Good film. Interesting story. Obviously doesn't stand alone very well--since it ends right as it's just about to get going--but I'm interested in seeing where it's going. Decent enough acting from the whole cast.
The effects are a bit bad, but it was 1954 so what do you want? I was also a bit pissed by Criterion's shoddy subtitle work. There's a great deal of stuff being said by characters, which isn't placed in the subtitles and so I feel like I'm missing out at times because I don't understand Japanese.
