Mifune is great, everyone knows that. This first installment in the trilogy can be slow-paced at times, being more concerned with Musashi's maturation and various relationships between characters than any epic duels, but that doesn't make it any less interesting.

In fact, the action in the movie was much less interesting to me than seeing the relationships between Otsu and Takezo amd Oko and Matahachi evolve. It's very apparent that this is the beginning of an epic adventure, and I can't wait to catch the rest of the story.
