Review of Rubber (2010) by Xochitl R — 01 Feb 2012
The movie's central concept - we're watching an audience watching a movie, but they're watching it happen in real life - is fantastic in theory, but tedious in execution. Even at a trim 85 minutes, most of this movie feels like padding.
We get characters explaining to us and other characters that the film's events are just a movie, but these explanations are so tedious that it drains any sort of surrealist pleasure you may have gotten from watching a tire telepathicly blow up people's heads.
This would have worked better as a short film.
