Review of Rubber (2010) by Anthony J — 28 May 2015
"Rubber" is the sort of movie that people who use the term 'meta' and think that it means something would make. It tries so hard to be absurd that it ends up being just dumb. If the description provided by the filmmakers were true, and this was just a weird film about an animate tire, it might be fun.
Instead, we are subjected to an attempt to parody we, the audience, with a group of 'spectators' whom are portrayed as idiots, save one old man who ruins the plans of the characters that I can only assume are meant to stand as representations of schlocky independent filmmakers.
In the end, I was left without a feeling of entertainment nor of edification. I've watched it, so now you don't have to.
