Review of Robin Hood (2018) by Jessica%20 W — 21 Nov 2018
I looked the movie from start to finish. I loved how Marian was portrayed as much more than Robin Hood's love interest, how she had her own personality, her own opinions, & was much more than just a pawn.
I also loved how Robin was given the chance to learn inside info first hand, & actually acted the part of a young lord returned home from war. I enjoyed how they showed how the Robin became a crusader & how the war changed him, how it made him "wake up" in some ways. I liked how it showed how Robin came to care for the common people, & why he decided to become a bandit.
Another thing I liked was the complete change in Will's usual role. Instead of just being Robin's childhood friend or a friend from the war, Will was his own character. Will had ambitions, dreams, goals, and an entire personality that didn't try to mesh with Robin's. I liked how Will was the most selfish character, and a new potential villain or hero. I really liked how he could have gone either way.
I also enjoyed the fact that Robin's entire reason for stealing from the corrupt sheriff wasn't based on trying to raise a ransom for King Richard.
Another point in favor of this movie was that the Shieriff didn't use the age old " we're trying to raise a ransom to save King Richard" excuse. He just kept raising the taxes for Notigham as a way to prove his power over the common people.
What people have failed to mention thus far, is that this movie had no "warlock" or a royal member as part of the cast. This works out great, because it helps to set this movie apart from all those that have come before it. It's also a great way to threaten the corrupt church & the sheriff. I do hope there will be a sequel.
