Review of Robin Hood (2018) by Evokings — 22 Jul 2019
This movie has so many issues that need to be addressed, so much so that I might miss a few key problems in my review, I apologize in advance if I fail to mention something that viewers are bound to hate lol, but lets get into the review, I will start with: the background props and sets/clothing, pretty much the whole movie design, to be brief and to the point, it's not fooling anyone, we're supposed to be back in robin hoods time, which is the past, and this is a problem for a lot of modern films that delve into the past, and I have mentioned this in a few of my other reviews, but everything is way too clean just not done well enough to convince viewers that we are in a time of less conveniences, as for clothing well this is one of my biggest gripes with the film whoever did the costume/wardrobe listen you can't put robin hood in a "JC penny style" button up dress shirt answering the door in one scene, and then a leather hoodie with exotic diamond patches the next, then the white long sleeve shirts for the training montage, come on a man that was supposed to be born in 1160 it's all wrong, and I know the stupid monologue in the opening of the movie, which I will be going into detail about soon, said "forget what you know about robin hood" but hey lets get real if a movie gives no effort to produce something close to it's own source material or show that they give a dang it makes the viewer open his mind up to what other movies they watched and what source material or movie it's ripping off, which is yet another thing that needs to be addressed lol, but as for the monologue it seems like it was thrown in to help explain the awkwardness of the movie as it progresses, but here is the thing fryer tuck is the voice they chose to do the monologue, think about that for a second, this is robin hoods tale yet he does not perform the voice for the monologue that plays throughout the movie, which would have added more depth to the character had robin voiced the monologue, and made it feel more focused as opposed to told from someone whom has a limited perspective on the matter, I almost forgot the commoners/peasants if that's what you want to call these well dressed people rotfl, call him "hood" or "The hood" in the movie no doubt hoping to cash in on the success of the hit CW TV series Arrow [for those that don't know the main characters alter ego in the show is known as the Hood], now that reminds me this movie pretty much flat out rips off or takes elements from these movies: Zero dark thirty, The count of Monte Cristo, Star wars episode 1, James bond, the matrix, the fast and the furious, just to name a few, and here is how the movie does it.
.. Zero Dark thirty because middle eastern conflict and machine gun arrows yes they want you to know they existed not semi automatic full on automatic with a mount for a gopro and a samsung galaxy lol, you know this movie is soo bad at times it seems as though the script must have been rewritten or something, for example when robin hood returns from his crusade he does not let his maiden know he is alive, at first and it genuinely seems like he wants to keep it that way for some reason, then he's like you know what I'm Edmond Dantès from the count of monte cristo I don;t care if she sees me, now here take my money people and sheriff lol, episode 1 of star wars because politics are discussed more then some might care in the movie I know I'm grasping at straws a little here lol, James bond because, Maid Marion shows up at a casino and they gamble for some reason and then talk politics afterwards, I suppose it sort of goes into star wars episode 1 again here lol.
the Matrix well slow-mo action after hiding behind large pillars as cover, that get destroyed by oncoming enemy arrows in slow-mo, it's totally and shamelessly a matrix rip here, fast and the furious because were steeling money heist style over the top cheese with fire and the hoods merry, well dressed for the era, men walking gangsta style with cocktails sort of a stupid scene in the movie [I'd be lying if I said I did not laugh while watching this].
in closing the acting and dialog is all over the place ranging from passable to down right terrible save for maybe: little john, fryer tuck, and maybe the sheriff, so if you read this long rant I'm sure you can understand why I gave it a 2 lol.
