Review of Robin and Marian (1976) by Luke P — 29 Nov 2007
A very different take on the Robin Hood legend from versatile director Richard Lester. Gone are the tights and the swashbuckling of legend, replaced by an old, grey and worn out Robin, returning after 20 years at the Crusades, ready to renew his rivalry with old nemesis The Sheriff of Nottingham. This film is a slow meditation on aging and re-finding your place in the world, as well as about love that can never die. It features a tremendous cast, including Sean Connery, Audrey Hepburn, Robert Shaw and Richard Harris, to name but a few.
Love is the greatest adventure of all indeed.
