Review of Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008) by Tristen R — 30 Aug 2010
I actually enjoyed this a lot more then I thought I would, considering I'm not a fan of musicals.
It's a great story, full of tragedy, deception and murder. Perfectly suited for an opera-like presentation, but full of modern twists. SO much so that apparently Universal allowed a not so subtle (musicless) rip-off of the story with their film Repo Men.
I have to say that visually this film was amazing and the cast was really smart as well. It is really pleasing to the eye (to spite the gore), but not so much for to the ear.
I'm no expert, but the songs themselves (along with much of the singing) just felt really amateure and forced...almost like an afterthought.
