Review of Red Sparrow (2018) by Evangelos C — 04 Mar 2018
Some great acting (minus the accents, I chose not to think about it) and a strong finale, but the potential is tarnished a lack of characterization and motivation in key places.
For instance, while most often careful beyond measure, should it convenience the plot that you believe what could very well be a sneaky lie to reveal your intentions, well, you just act on it.
Character development is also convenient, and basic to an extent. Stereotypes don't help either.
It all makes it easier to get into Dominika's mind and not be that surprised with anything up to the end. If you anticipate it, it will most likely happen, and if you overthink expecting something mind-boggling, you won't be rewarded.
