Review of Rebel Without a Cause (1955) by Trevor H — 29 Jun 2012
A classic in movie history as Dean plays Jim Stark, a teenager completely disaffected by the relationship he has with his parents, seeking solace in the love of Judy, played by Natalie Wood. These days, the dialogue seems somewhat clunky and the plot predictable - so the film hasn't worn well over time.
However, when you consider it was released in 1955, its story of teenage angst and parental frustration is as true today as then. The scene in which Judy is slapped by her father is still shocking.
