Review of Rebel Without a Cause (1955) by Charles P — 10 Jul 2017
Nicholas Ray's bravura direction and James Dean's scintillating, rivetting performance elevate this from what should have been a B movie that no one remembers to one of the deservedly all time iconic films in American history.
The granddaddy of all teen angst fulm, I recently watched this with my 13 year old daughter and she totally got it. Yes, guven the context, some elements of the film seem dated, especially compared to Dean's mesmerizing method acting, many of the supporting actors seem hammy.
But regardless, it is an intense, emotional, unforgettable film that stands the test of time.
