Review of Rebel Without a Cause (1955) by Thomas B — 22 Jan 2018
****.
In his most famous role, which tragically proved to be his last, James Dean shines. This is the kind of story that has been done to death in years since, but a lot of them owe a great deal to 'Rebel Without a Cause'. Released in 1955, I'd be lying if I said parts didn't seem a bit dated, but the core message and heart of the film lives on. Beautifully directed and featuring an enigmatic, conflicted yet endlessly likeable character at its centre, the movie is always interesting. By no means a perfect picture, but certainly one that, despite being a product of its time, contains a potently insightful message that still resonates to this day.
