Review of Rebel Without a Cause (1955) by Chazz L — 23 Apr 2009
Rebel Without a Cause is a movie in which its title sums up the plot. Not to say it was a bad movie; for a 50s film it really took advantage of the colour TV technology as best as it could. Unfortunately, a contemporary viewer couldn't possibly appreciate the efforts put into developing the film and so other aspects should be assessed, such as the plot.
As predictable as it may seem, the protagonist is a likable guy who just can't get out of trouble, regardless of how hard he tries. James Dean encapsulates what can only be described as an excellent point of view from the worried teen protagonist and his transition from opressed child to someone lovestruck with a sense of authority.
Any fan of the classic olden day films should definitely take a look at this film.
