Review of Ray (2004) by Rocco A — 15 Nov 2010
âRayâ? is I think one of the best movies/biopic I have ever seen. Having some great performances here, with great story, this film works at all levels and surely won't make you bored or tired even a bit. Speaking of great acting here, yes, he really deserves his academy award for best actor, Jamie Foxx, as Ray Charles, I think watching Foxx in this very deserving role is not very easy that most actors do. Imagine him playing in a role where he is blind, playing music, doing drugs, whoa! This must be probably the reason why he nailed that oscar, and yet this is Foxx's best film to date. What I also learned from this movie is to love god as you love another. We all know who Ray Charles was but somehow, I never knew his life story, I didn't know he had a brother who died accidentally and yet kept thinking about him, I don't know either that he did drugs and slept with some woman. Probably Ray Charles has some good point at least on why his life became so miserable because he wants to get over with this accident. The film is 2 Â 1/2 hours long so most of the scenes are most likely concerts but surely this film takes you on a different level of a biography music film, by showing to the viewers the success, rise, and fall of a legendary singer. I found some movies that I've seen lately that are also bio-music movie such as âSelenaâ?, âThe Doorsâ?, to be slight good and yet this one has everything that I'm truly looking for, I'll give some examples: Some songs of Ray Charles became number 1 hit on the billboard chart, there are some scenes that we can see that those songs really on the top by showing some newspapers and in the radio. Also âRayâ? jumps back and forth in time to gives us a non-tiring story about his life from his childhood while at the end, he is kinda on his dream that he understands about life would have been if his brother still alive and if he wouldn't be blind at all.
Well then, I say seriously I am not basically a Ray Charles fan but this movie just works a lot to me. Now, this is probably one of the best films of 2004 and once again I must say, Jamie Foxx truly deserves the oscar. âRayâ? is definitely a big winner that will give you a lot of joy, happiness, sadness, and even cheers at the end. 5 stars.
