Review of Ratcatcher (1999) by Kevin L — 31 Jan 2015
Incredibly bleak and I had to watch it with subtitles on to get through the almost undecipherable scottish accents, but so well made. Set in Glasgow during a garbage strike in the early 80's, it draws parallels between the city's poor and the vermin they live in such close proximity with.
Do not watch this if you're looking for a pick-me-up, but if you appreciate virtuoso story-telling and a how-to in characterization without a wordy plot, then this might be the movie for you.
