Review of Ratcatcher (1999) by Ricardo O — 15 May 2011
A superb Scottish film, and an excellent first feature from director Lynne Ramsay. The acclaim it instantly garnered and has continued to garner is well deserving. It's poignant, almost depressing at points but also has slight bits of humor.
It is an extremely real portrayal of the impoverished Glasgow residents of the early '70s. Beautiful camerawork and consistently good acting, particularly the little hero of the film. Ratcatcher is hard to stomach at times but is highly recommended viewing for it's stark realism and power.
Excellent movie. 8/10.
