Review of Rashomon (1950) by Simon D — 29 Jun 2014
Dare I say that this is a little over-rated. We are drawn in by what promises to be one hell of a story only to find out that it's not as horrific as they make out. There are a lot of flaws in the story and some mysteries such as, why do the characters think that it's faster to crawl after someone than stand up and run, and why does the so-called goddess's eyebrows appear two inches higher on her forehead than they should be and why do they transform from faint layers of dust to great big furballs and back again from scene to scene? These mysteries are more interesting than the one which we are supposed to be wondering about.
Despite this, it's not a bad film and has quite an interesting message which is still very much true today as it was back then.
