Review of Rashomon (1950) by Knox M — 11 Jun 2017
A murdered samurai is found in the forest near some sort of post. We don't know what happened, but we are up for the task to find out as we get four different stories. One is told by the woman, one by a bandit, one by a woodcutter and one by the dead man himself. We switch back and forth in time, perspectives change, but the setting stays.
Very complex and observative film that's got a great direction and some nice shots. Smart and open film by one of the greatest movie masters ever.
I did like it a whole lot, even if it never engaged me completely. The idea and execution are swell, the nature and characters are nice features too.
Mysterious and a film that seem very open, still done with deeper statements even if the film itself is something you not necessarily get.
8.5 out of 10 perspectives.
