Review of Rabid (1977) by Tor M — 29 Aug 2018
An early David Cronenberg flick, a man that has done a few gems and some horror classics in my book. This is the typical zombie story, only with a hot lady, Rose, as the main disease spreader. Rose is involved in a motocycle accident and needs some surgery. This gives her some sort of addiction too blood so she takes a bite of people, mostly men, that comes near her.
She never turn a zombie herself, but people she bites turns ugly and bubling of green salvia - real old school zombie looks. They turn out te be everywhere. The Rose character is actually acted out by a porn star but she is not that bad as an actress, really.
This is not a big hit for me. Kind of funny at times and a few twists makes sure it's not a total flop but the story is way too typical and I feel that Cronenberg's strenght is originality and that lacks here. The pace is a bit slow, it feels repitative and it's never scary, just semi gory.
4.5 out of 10 Santa killers.
