Review of Psycho (1998) by Marcus G — 03 Nov 2012
This is both excellent and mundane same stroke. Whilst the plot and execution are bordering on boring at times, the clinical detail of Bate's method is creepy and frightening. Whilst the infamous shower scene is clearly a work of editorial art, the aftermath is more understated and to me, even more disturbing.
In 2010 though, the impact has been lost, but back in 1960, psychopathic behaviour was becoming more widely known, in no small part due to this film.
So in short, well performed, written and shot, but on the down side, it may well have been too well shot, and becomes such an accurate portrayal, that it loses some of its theatrical charm.
