As the most overrated John Carpenter movie, Prince of Darkness plods with wooden characters, cheap dialogue, and a lack of focus. Carpenter's ideas are interesting but underdeveloped, and only Pleasence and a couple of eerie scenes are able to give the film a bit of a lift.
