Review of Prince of Darkness (1987) by Stuart M — 21 Aug 2015
A strong start that degenerates into a somewhat typical horror film. A few inventive bug deaths aside all the murders are mundane, and while I don't normally watch films for the gruesome deaths that's not the same as saying I don't want to be kept interested.
Carpenter often has a tendency to keep his characters at a bit of a distance, so we never really know them as well as with other directors. That tendency backfires here as with a somewhat predictable plot the cast of mostly B-Grade actors don't seem particularly interesting.
Even Donald Pleasance has little to contribute.
