Review of Prince of Darkness (1987) by Solomon G — 28 Dec 2011

I know it shouldn't but this scared the shit out of me. I have a feeling it was played with tongue in cheek...like they weren't aware they were making a little gem. I had NIGHTMARES, man. Not too many flicks do that to me (I dunno, maybe 5?). A remarkable feat being that I don't actually believe in the supernatural. This is some scary movie.

I've tried to analyse why this was so genuinely frightening when all the signs suggested I should have fallen asleep or rocked with mirth; I think it's partly down to claustrophobia. They're trapped in a church.

A memorable scene is the Asian guy trapped in a little store room franticly trying to burrow his way out, while the pregnant woman (now possessed by the devil) slowly makes her way to the door to get him, along with some equally evil accomplices. Yeech! Careful, you may sleep with the lights on for a while...
