Review of Primal Fear (1996) by Efrain S — 13 Jul 2011
Great. I had the initial twist pegged early on, since I've been watching all of United States of Tara lately (a show about Dissociative Identity Disorder - back then Multiple Personality Disorder).
It has a great cast - this is the second film I've liked Gere in now after Days of Heaven, he gives a likable performance here. Laura Linney is good. Terry O'Quinn is a nasty bastard here. This has to be among Norton's best performances, of which there are many.
And I don't even like McDormand that much usually, but she played a good character here. It has a good pacing to it that keeps you interested throughout. You care about Aaron because Norton is so likable.
All of the focus on why lawyers do what they do was great too. It's also an "F-you" to the Catholic Church, since it reveals sexual abuse kept secret and covered up by them, which they're of course renowned for.
The final twist really blows it all open and is brilliant.
