Review of Pride and Glory (2008) by Gavin S — 07 Nov 2011
This is a decent movie, about a family of Cops in NYC. It was co-written by Joe Carnahan (of Narc fame) which explains the very gritty, in-your-face style where even the good guys aren't super good.
The acting is very good, with Norton and Emmerich playing brothers to father Jon Voight, with Colin Farrell as their brother in law. Only problem is, this isn't a very original movie...I felt like I knew exactly what was going to happen within about 30 min.
That being said, it is a good film, especially if you like cop movies, or movies about family dynamics and loyalty. Without giving anything away, Norton is investigating a case of murdered cops who worked under his brother's command, and alongside Farrell.
..things don't add up and it's not long before he has to figure out what's going on, and who needs to know what. The good performances and dark grit of NYC outweigh the negatives, so it's worth a watch if you like this genre or Ed Norton/Colin Farrell, who both give solid performances.
