Review of Philadelphia (1993) by Stephen B — 20 Jun 2014
83%.
Usually I end up liking drama films because of the acting involved it than the whole film as such, but this film is an exception for me because I liked the film more than any other aspect in it. This is one of the best court room drama that I have seen since watching 12 Angry Men. Both Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington give pivotal performances where Washington's is my favourite in this film. Tom Hanks is actually one of the first actors playing gay men with AIDS. This film sheds lots of new light on the disease and shows how the victims were treated by the public in the 90s. Had this film been made after Forest Gump, Hanks wouldn't have received the Oscar, I believe that he was awarded the Oscar mostly for his daring decision to take up such a role which many would have rejected.
