Philadelphia could've settled with being a decent if typical courtroom drama but the material is elevated massively by the lead actors Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington. There is some great emotional content here but with so many great courtroom dramas I just feel it is missing that special something in the plot to elevate things to an A+ standard. What Philadelphia does show is how very serious very human issues written into a films screenplay (in this case AIDS) can be made so believable by a talented cast.
