Review of Phantom of the Opera (1943) by Richard G — 15 Dec 2010
Made in 1943.Enrique Claudin (Claude Raines) has his music stolen off a Music publisher, when he confronts the man in the fight becomes disfigured after acid is thrown onto his face,he then goes into recluse and madness who haunts the Paris Opera House and murders anyone who stands in the way of his True love's Music career.
Universal's 2nd stab at this story, although I do think the Lon Chaney version is far superior this film still holds its own and great to see the origin of the Phantom too,Claude Raines is a terrific actor but does'nt get much screen time as the Phantom and the movie is very opera heavy, but thats okay as its part of the theme, its no classic but its deffinetly an enjoyable movie.
