Review of Peppermint (2018) by Greg C — 08 Sep 2018
It turns out, the former Elektra, former girlfriend-of-Daredevil actress, former Mrs. Affleck is Batman. Revenge porn. Jennifer Garner is on a high profile streak this year. When onscreen, she certainly holds my attention.
I empathize. This is not even my favorite performance of hers this year. Too much that is critical to this story happens off screen. I would like to have seen more of the overseas fighting and weapons training.
The revenge on the actual hitmen and the defense attorney should have been given more film time. This movie leaves one probing the edges of one's remaining misogyny. Salt knew it was vicarious entertainment.
In the intervening years, movies like Atomic Blonde, Red Sparrow, and now Peppermint (totally irrelevant name) have failed to bring the female "badassery" in for a satisfying landing. If the lead was a man, this would be a routine gunplay revenge movie.
I suppose the title Toy Reindeer was thrown out for other associative reasons.
