Review of Paper Towns (2015) by Ricardo A — 08 Aug 2015
Movie Review:
It was tough finding a movie to watch this weekend. Bennett and I have seen all the big budget blockbusters. We've seen the latest in great animation and cinematography. But, it was Saturday - and B really wanted to go to a movie. His choice was Fantastic 4. I looked at the reviews - and thought there must be something better that he might enjoy. And scanning through Flixster - we came across Paper Towns. All in all - it sounded like it might be a decent movie for us to take in.
And surprise of surprises.
It was good.
Not great. But good.
It's a coming of age story with a group of friends who are approaching their high school graduation - and getting ready for what comes next. The main characters are a group of buddies who can't stop thinking about the upcoming prom. They all want to go - but only one of them has a girl friend... You get the picture.
Enter Margo - the girl next door. She's a charmer of sorts. But her friendship with our trio long ago ended - for reasons that are never quite clear. Margo is pretty. She's also eccentric. She has also been hurt. And she enlists the boy next door on a night time adventure to "get even" with those who have wronged her. Not in a malicious way. But, she's been hurt, and she wants to even the scales.
My favorite coming of age movie is Stand by Me. I still enjoy watching that show.
Paper Towns is not on a par with Stand by Me. Yet, it is a perfectly likeable show. Perhaps it could have been better. But that's okay. Bennett and I left the movie theater with smiles on our faces. And that is what going to the movies is all about.
Bennett and I give Paper Towns a 6 on our 10 point scale. Good. Just not great.
