How hard was it to just copy from the first movie? Was it necessary to have teenage pilots save the world? What's with pandering and blatant upkissing to the Chibese?

Also, when Gypsy drops towards Mt. Fuji and starts igniting because of attrition with air at nigh supersonic speed, the pilots are completely exposed because the front shield of their cockpit got torn off, are wearing no visor, and still not even a light breeze seems to be grazing their faces. 150M budget and nobody in QA or whoever proofread the script noticed this? Really?
