Review of Orpheus (1950) by Codie E — 10 Jan 2009
Another successful adaptation of a classical story from Jean Cocteau, who uses brilliant visual trickery to add colour to an already established story. The film would be very good without the tricks and this is the key to their success.
There is a visual poetry always at work, as though Cocteau is using the camera as his pen and the flourishes as his rhyme.
