Review of Ordinary People (1980) by Zainab K — 02 Apr 2009
This film, Robert Redford's first as director, is an excellent example of minimal techniques being used to their full effect in modern cinema. This tragic story of a family coping with the loss of one of their own packs a powerful emotional punch and some incredibly profound moments.
Inspired performances by Sutherland, Moore, Hirsch and especially Hutton help to drive the film forward and Redford's direction really sets the mood properly. A truly great film, well deserving of all the praise it has received over the years.
