Review of Ordet (1955) by Rachelandjohn D — 30 Jun 2013
Ordet is based upon a 1932 play by Munk who was a Lutheran pastor. It has been said that this is one of the greatest films about religion and I would certainly agree. Faith plays a major part of Dreyer's film.
Ordet looks in to how we believe instead of why or if we believe. The very dramatic and emotional ending of the film clearly shows the viewer that God is real, and all the many different denominational arguments of people throughout the centuries only reveal a lack of faith and devotion to the truth here revealed by an undeniable supernatural act of God.
