Review of Ordet (1955) by Bob V — 04 Dec 2010
Perhaps this movie doesn't really resonate with me because a) I have no faith whatsoever and b) I can't even grasp what the big differences are between the denominations of the two families in this film.
My understanding of the movie was further complicated by the cadence of the Danish in it, which lulled me into staring-but-not-seeing, which is fine and enjoyable, but not speaking a word of Danish, I should have been reading subtitles.
I can believe the film was a hot topic in its time, and the final scene requires little understanding of religion, Danish or cinema to be powerful and moving.
