Review of Ordet (1955) by Brian B — 03 Apr 2017
Ordet (The Word) is a pretty good film. The story is fairly interesting, and the charactors are very interesting but it just doesn't really do it for me. Since the film is based off a play, it seems Dreyer directed it like a play, it is almost like watching something on stage.
That is not the type of direction in which I usually like. The acting a really good, and of all the foreign films I've seen it seems Danish is the closest to English, I found myself starting to understand what they were saying.
I wouldn't go out of my way to see this, there is better out there but don't avoid it either. Overall 2.5/4 Stars Grade = B-.
