Review of Opera (1987) by Andrew D — 26 Jan 2010
The good: the scenes involving a peephole and the first scene with the pins are brilliant, the deaths are disturbing and realistic, sustained tension, genre subversions, top notch cinematography.
The bad: the lead actress is awful, the use of heavy metal during the murder scenes is bizarre and distracting, the story is illogical, and the killer is easy to spot. I would've liked to have seen more dialogue between the killer and the lead actress.
Overall: not as good as Suspiria but very solid and definitely worth watching for fans of slashers/thrillers/giallo/Argento.
7.5/10.
