Review of Opera (1987) by Jon C — 04 Mar 2013
One of Dario Argento's best.
He takes a break from the supernatural side of things and focuses on the horror of the mind.
The film is dark, gory and pretty damn disturbing especially when it comes to the scenes of the needles on the eyelids.
That freaks anybody out.
It's also very nice that you never see the killer/stalker that's after Betty, that's what heightens the suspense and makes the viewer picture in their mind who he is.
The use of the shadows, the dark lights and the crows emphasize the more gothic side of the opera.
The ending needed more work but the movie makes great use of its characters and not the usual horror fare.
