Review of On the Waterfront (1954) by Andrew G — 02 Feb 2012
On the Waterfront is an unforgettable celebration of human emotion and will. Marlon Brando's style of method acting brings an element of the unpredictable to his character Terry Malloy, a simpleminded ex-boxing champ turned errand boy for the Mob.
Molloy struggling with what the mob has made him decides to fight back. It seems at times even the other actors can't predict what Brando might bring to a scene, adding an overwhelming tension to his presence .
By 1954 the Gangster genre had been beat to a pulp but Kazan gave it new life, directing a level freshness that had never been seen before.
