Review of On the Beach (1959) by Steve W — 08 Feb 2010
A powerful and grim story with solid acting. Australia has become the lat safe haven after a devastating nuclear war. The remaining survivors must deal with the fact that their end is inevitable.
The movie focuses on several personal relationships of the characters rather than on the post-apocalyptic state of the new world. It opts for character study more than telling the audience how and when everything happens.
A strong and moving message about nuclear weapons. Also an excellent dystopian science fiction film.
