Review of On the Beach (1959) by Ian H — 03 Aug 2009
Being born in the late 70s, I have only heard from others what it was like living through the Cold War and the threat on nuclear holocaust. This movie, to me, drove home the point not only the utter devastation and tragedy of areas wiped out, but the intense fear, despair and confusion of those who know the radiation is approaching and will claim their lives. A truly intense look at human emotions. Does have some corny moments, but all together it is powerful.
One star off for the overuse of Australian slang and "Waltzing Matilda": never want to hear that song again.
