Review of On the Beach (1959) by Matthew C — 09 Sep 2010
I suppose it sticks to the book, but it has no suspense and no tention. The soundtrack is pretty poor and out of sync with the action. The tone of the film is uncertain in whether to be a be a tradional romance or a dark serious film. Meanders too much, and is just too dull and wordy, nothing in this sparks your imagination like the book did. Instead it just focuses on is bleakness, and no hope. "Where the wind blows" is a much better, more thoughtout film on the subject.
Disappointing, when the books a stone wall classic.
