Review of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) by David S — 11 Mar 2010
Thunderball and You Only Live Twice are pretty cruddy and haven't aged well. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is wittier, classier and more exciting than those two. It takes risks with the Bond formula and mostly succeeds.
What about Lazenby? He's a lightweight compared to Connery, but he's exactly what's called for here. Could you imagine Connery being vulnerable and crying for a girl? Could you imagine him playing a nerdy college professor for a good chunk of time? Lazenby's fine. No more jokes.
