Review of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) by Adam T — 22 May 2017
Sticking very close to the original Ian Fleming story, OHMSS is a surprisingly human Bond outing that de-emphasises the cartoonish aspects of the series. George Lazenby (an Australian model with little acting experience) looks the part and is very compelling when it comes to the fisty-cuffs but not so compelling in the dramatic moments.
His performance is quite uneven but the tight editing of Peter Hunt works wonders especially in some of the thrilling action sequences. Acting is certainly not as easy as it looks and Lazenby deserves credit for his confidence in the part however.
He is not a natural actor but the movie offers him enough to do and as Bond films go, it's one of the best in the series.
