Review of Old Acquaintance (1943) by Steve B — 23 Apr 2008
The highlight of this film is Bette Davis walking across the room and giving Miriam Hopkins a good shaking, then blandly saying "Sorry" before leaving. Since they hated each other in real life itâ??s tempting to see the satisfaction in Betteâ??s eyes as she does this.
But actually this is one of her most underated roles, and allegedly the one that resembled her own personality the most. The story has strong soap opera elements, boosted by some classy lines and interesting performances of smaller parts.
But its Bette and Miriam and that shaking you will remember.
