Review of Ocean's Twelve (2004) by Jessica F — 23 Sep 2010
The sequel to Ocean's Eleven features two new players in the game - Tess Ocean (Julia Roberts), Danny's wife, and Isabel Lahiri (Catherine Zeta-Jones), Rusty's scorned girlfriend who is the daughter of a thief, turned mega-investigator. While Roberts is charming in her role and has her moments (such as her encounter with 'herself'), it is Zeta-Jones who plays a more welcome addition to the cast.
Where Ocean's Eleven, as I wrote, "laid out its cards but didn't hold the audience's hand", Ocean's Twelve by comparison hands the audience a crude map and walks away. Scenes at the end that are supposed to be meaningful and heartwarming lose their effect entirely due to a plot that has left the audience stranded and scrambling to keep up.
