Review of Ocean's Twelve (2004) by Johnathon W — 27 May 2018
Disappointing sequel to the classic heist film that tries to be too artsy for it's own good. The only reason to still watch is the cast, who still brings the charm and great chemistry from the original (they have fun putting Matt Damon's Linus through his paces) though new addition Catherine Zeta Jones is wasted as the Interpol agent (and Rusty's former love interest) hunting them.
Behind the camera, director Soderbergh tries for a different approach with an artsy, Euro heist film but the tone & story or all wrong. The twists are forced, unlike the original, which slowly let you in on the heist as the story progressed.
In "Twelve", the audience is kept in the dark till the very end and then just feels like a cheat trick. Overall, just a bad film made worse by it being the sequel to such a great one.
